The HERO Awards, an annual event recognizing exceptional contributions to LGBTQI communities and the HIV response in the Asia-Pacific region, will take place on November 24, 2023, at The Sukosol Hotel in Bangkok. This year’s 7th edition is officially hosted by the German Embassy to Thailand. Germany holds significant global roles, including co-chairing the Equal Rights Coalition (ERC) for 2022-2024, which focuses on protecting LGBTQI rights worldwide, and chairing the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) this year. The upcoming international AIDS conference will be held in Munich in 2024.
Under the theme “Forward Together,” HERO Awards 2023 underscores the need for collaboration among various stakeholders, including government, the private sector, academia, and individuals, to achieve equity, dignity, and social justice for all.
The APCOM Foundation, a leading nonprofit based in Bangkok, works to combat HIV and promote LGBTQI health and rights in the Asia-Pacific region. The HERO Awards serve as a fundraiser and receive support from corporate sponsors, community organizations, and diplomatic missions.

According to our Senior Human Rights and Advocacy Manager, Nhuun Yodmuang, “APTN recognizes the HERO Award as a way to inspire others, expanding activism and movement. Regarding our partnership – we ensure that trans activists are recognized, and trans demands and voices are heard. We also hope that this space continues to be a platform to learn, connect, and move forward together for trans equality.”
The event promises an inspiring evening of celebration in Bangkok, featuring an awards ceremony, a lively cocktail reception with delicious canapés, fine wines, and premium beer, as well as live entertainment, fundraising activities, and a fashion show.
