Violence
In many parts of Asia and the Pacific, trans and gender diverse people face high rates of gender-based violence. This occurs in public life, but also in private spaces, including their homes, at the hands of family members and intimate partners.
Due to the high rates of violence in cases reported from Asia, and in several other countries in the region, it is becoming recognised as a facet of gender-based violence that must be addressed. However, there is still a lack of systematic monitoring of hate violence or reports of murdered trans and gender diverse people on a national, regional or international level.
In order to address this underreporting, APTN continues to work with its partners on various projects to monitor and raise awareness of the extent of human rights violations committed against trans and gender diverse people in Asia and the Pacific.
