Intersectionality
Intersectionality describes how a person’s different social and political identities intersect to create different modes of discrimination and privilege. Within the trans and gender diverse community in Asia and the Pacific, there groups who face intersecting issues that make them especially vulnerable and marginalised.
APTN seeks to build a trans and gender diverse community where those who are particularly at risk of multiple discrimination are visible and represented. We are concerned in particular with the specific needs and the different perspectives of trans and gender diverse people in sex work, intersex people (who may or may not identify as trans), trans and gender diverse people with disabilities, and aging.
To this aim, we cooperate with organisations representing these groups or working on relevant issues, such as intersex, sex workers’ and migration and asylum organisations.
